From Comic Senate Hearings to Mangadex Decimation In-Person
Banned Books Comics Edition
Oct. 6th-10th is Banned books week, and American Library Association awareness campaign to show the prominence of censorship in books and other forms of media. For this special presentation, come by the library to learn about how the 1954 Comic Senate Hearings are still affecting comic book stigma in the United states today. There are many things that affect comic access over the years. We will also take a brief moment to address the recent takedowns of a popular reading site "MangaDex" which hosts fan translated manga (Japanese Comic Books), and discuss the implication of lack of access for modern comic readers.
Join librarian Andrea Thimesch for this special discussion on comic stigma and access. She will stay after for additional questions and discussion.
