Cultivating Civil Conversations In-Person

Meaningful conversations on important and complex topics is at the heart of education, yet in this time of increased anxiety, guiding students into topics where there will be disagreement can feel risky. In this session, Professors Terri Easley-Giraldo, Danny Alexander, and Eve Blobaum will lead a discussion on how to cultivate deep conversations that explore the balance between free speech and civility. This session is coordinated by the English Common Read committee in conjunction with this year’s Common Read, Just Mercy by Bryan Stephenson.
